Partnerships

Under the terms of our cooperation agreement between the University of Rostock, the Faculty of Mechanical and Naval Engineering, and Fraunhofer IGP, we have maintained close collaboration in teaching and research for many years.

The Chair of Manufacturing Technology is responsible for teaching the production and manufacturing technology modules in the bachelor’s and master’s programs. We work closely with the Chair of Joining Technology to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of all manufacturing processes.

Since 1998, university teaching has been closely integrated with industrial research. Through the shipbuilding, steel construction, mechanical engineering, and automotive engineering research activities in joining technology and manufacturing technology—which have grown continuously since then—as well as through wide-ranging manufacturing research projects in automation technology, production organization, and measurement technology, students are presented with interesting fundamental and application-oriented tasks within the framework of term papers and theses, which facilitate the transition from academic study to professional practice.

Many of our graduates have gone on to pursue interesting careers in industry or research and remain closely connected today through the Chairs of Manufacturing Technology and Joining Technology as part of an alumni network.
